Mental Health Month: Stigma, Language, Ethics, and Recruiting

Date: Sep , EST

Targeting those diagnosed with a mental health illness has proven to be difficult for countless reasons. We have turned to experts and thought leaders with vast amounts of experience to present on some core topics that are typically missed when creating a patient recruitment strategy for new brain heath therapies. It’s an ongoing learning process and we will have Allen Doederlin, Carlos A. Larrauri, and Luke Kramer presenting on the ethical way to engage and educate those diagnosed with a mental illness on upcoming and ongoing trials.

Questions to ask before attending:

  1. How does language impact our discussion and what are some ethical issues and possible boundaries involved with digital media outreach?
  2. How can we refining a message that’s simple, sensitive and appropriate for those who might be seeking help?
  3. What has worked for advocacy and the broader engagement population?

Carlos A. Larrauri M.S.N., A.R.N.P., F.N.P.-B.C. serves on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Diagnosed with schizophrenia at 23 years of age, maintenance on a low-dose medication regimen, along with a holistic approach emphasizing diet, exercise and stress reduction, afforded him the best opportunity for recovery. Mr. Larrauri is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and is pursuing further graduate education for practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
